I still have not got the spouse situation of Thomas Dowling straight to my complete satisfaction. Right now I have him having had two; the first Kate Hodge and the second, Electa Brown. I have not found any reference to a Grace Hughs other than what I got from Sue Hines, but the name Grace appears to have been the given name of one of his daughters by Kate Hodge. The only relation I have no reason to question is Electa Brown. Regarding Hollwood vs Hollywood; Go completely with Hollywood as the former appears to have been a typographical error. The name is spelt HOLLYWOOD on George A. Hollywood's grave marker at the Port Burwell Baptist Cemetery. It is also spelt that was on Oscar Hollywood's and Sarah Hollywood's markers at the same cemetery. By the way, I know who Oscar Hollywood was but I do not have a Sarah Hollywood (b. April, 1768. d. Feb. 18, 1855). This could have been a married name. I also have an A.J. Hollywood (b.Jan. 1823 d. Nov. 4, 1898), Samuel Hollywood (b. Sept. 1799, d. Dec. 19, 1807) son of Amos and Mary, and James Hollywood (b. 1848, d. 1871). All of these are buried at Port Burwell Baptist Cemetery. Does this help or just confuse things further? On 5 Mar 2021, Gerry Phelan (1959-) says, "My Father Thomas Phelan (1920-1986) spent a great deal of time in his youth farming with my Uncle Maurice Dowling (1884-1944). Thomas Phelan (1920-1986), Maurice’s nephew, was the person who was present at his death as per the death record. While Maurice died in Errill where he resided, the farm that he owned and that he and Thomas Phelan farmed together was a farm in a place called The Heath, Clonmeen, Laois which is just outside Errill. This is where all of the Andrew Dowling (1817-1900) descendants also farmed in Clonmeen North and Clonmeen South. It is common knowledge in the Phelan Family that the descendants of Edward Dowling (1805-1881) and Andrew Dowling (1817-1900) were related."

Haven't had much joy as yet. The only further info. I can add is that my ggfather full name was Sydney William Dowling and was born 6/2/97 and that his father's first name was William.

I now know my grandfather (Sydney William) was born 6/2/1897 in Binfield (although record office has it as Easthampstead but these are probably one of the same). His father was I believe a William and I am awaiting clarification on this. I see from the 1881 Census that there was two William's resident in Binfield who might tie in, ie be the father. One being aged 10 the other 17, at the time of census, being sons of John (46) and William (40) who may well be brothers. I await certs. from record office to further investigation.

I was wondering if you had any relating to Dowling's in Binfield Berks. I found a Pat Conroy who seemed to be on the case of these but found her E-mail to be unobtainable. This is what I have discovered at present, I have found that my grandfather Sydney William Dowling (dob 7/2/1897), his father William Clifford Dowling (dob 16/8/1863) and his father William Dowling (dob circa 1841 - I can not trace his birth registration which I understand was not compulsory until around 1860, but aged 40 at 1881 Census (Binfield)) were all born in Binfield. I am awaiting a copy of the 1851 Census to push on but any assistance you may able to give would be most appreciated.

Citation Detail: From Stan Dowling - email address - Dowlings of Southern Indiana 26 May 1998 ; Hello Dowling Cousins,I am a descendent of John Dowling (Sr) who is first located in Washington Co. Bethlehem Twp, PA with Wife Eliz. and 3 children c. 1778. He moves to Jefferson Co., KY c. 1791 and nothing is known of him after 1808. His son Wm. (Sr) m: Mary Childers. Wm. (Sr) & John (Jr) moved to IN c. 1814. Wm. (Sr) had Wm. (Jr) who m: Hannah M. Fordyce. They had Joseph Lane who m: Louisa A. Reid. They had Otto Ervin(twin) who m: Malinda Ellen South. They had Arville Ervin who m: Leoma Fleetwood. They had Gene Ervin who m: Mickey Lee Fountain. They had me. Stories are told of John (Sr) having 7 brothers in Ireland fighting the British. There is a book "Dowlings of Southern Indiana by Enos Dowling" which I have a copy. I will glady share all that I have on my Dowling's. I hope to trace my family back to Ireland. Any of my cousin out there?
