    Citation Detail: 11Feb2019,
Citation Text: Apologies for not replying sooner, but I have been in converation with my cousin Jenny Greener nee Kenhard (uncle Brin's daughter). She believes the two sisters, who cared for the Jones children when they were orphaned, were Anne and Charlotte (Lottie) not Anne and Elizabeth. Also that Maria Maund's father was not on the birth certificate so she is unlikely to have been a Collier. I don't know if you have seen the certificate but it appears Ann Maund couldn't write so left her mark - the birth date is 22 April 1862, Cainham, Ludlow, County of Salop.

My nephew Jon looked up the 1891 census and found Edmund Jones aged 39 living at Tenbury, Worcestershire with Maria Jones and children James, Ernest, Elizabeth, Henry and Ann. His place of birth is also given at Tenbury. Jon thinks an Edmund Richard Jones, buried on 23 November 1896 in Wesbury, Shropshire, might be him but isn't sure so we'll keep on searching. My father and aunts and uncles all said granny's parents died about the same time and the children were taken to the Collier grandparents to be brought up but were actually cared for by the two unmarried aunts - so the date of death seems right for Edmund.

Jenny also reminded me that dad and uncle Brin thought one of your aunts married Gen Booth's son (of The Salvation Arm). She thinks Mildred but I don't recall seeing any Booth in the family tree. Were you aware of this story?

I had hoped to say I would pop to Maidstone some time to meet up with you and mum but I'm still not driving and won't be for some weeks yet. It is becoming very boring waiting for the hand to improve sufficiently to lead a normal life!

    Regards, Teresa

Subject: Dowling family tree

Congratulations on your work. My name is James Naughton and I am your second cousin.

My grandmother was Julia Mary Dowling a sister of your grandfather. My mother was Bridie Maher and she had a hand in rearing your father and his siblings, her first cousins. She married John Naughton and lived in Bansha Co. Tipperary. Your father spent some time near Bansha during the second world war( the emergency in Ireland) and frequently visited our family.

I have done some work on the family tree and would be glad to exchange information--you can contact me at Naughjim@esatclear.ie.

Believed to have possibly come from Ballynakill. Children: Mary, Anthony, John, Catharine and Michael.

Anne was shown, head of household, as living at home, in Knockanina, on the night of 31st March 1901 in the Census. She was shown as 50 years of age. The census shows her as a Widowed farmer who can Read & Write, speaking English as opposed to Irish. Born in Knockanina.

However, there is a slight contradiction between the census and son Anthony's Marriage Certificate which shows, on 30 October 1912, bride Elizabeth's father as 'deceased' but not Michael as deceased.

According to the census she was owner of the property shown as plot 9 on Knockanina. The property amounted to a fully built private '2nd class' dwelling of stone walls and tiled roof, it had four rooms and five windows to the front of the house. The premises contained two outhouses of one stable and one cow house.

Of Sconce to the north of Mountrath, Queen's County, Ireland.

Anne was shown on the birth certificate of son Anthony, on 8 June 1873, as formerly Carroll, married to Michael Doolan a farmer of Knockanina. Present at the birth was Catherine Carroll of Sconce, this is probably her mother although it could be her sister. Anne would have been about 22 years at the time.

Anne was shown, head of household, as living at home, in Knockanina, on the night of 31st March 1901 in the Census. She is shown as 50 years of age. The census shows her as a Widowed farmer who can Read & Write, speaking English as opposed to Irish. Born in Knockanina.

She was owner of the property shown as plot 9 on Knockanina. The property amounted to a fully built private '2nd class' dwelling of stone walls and tiled roof, it had four rooms and five windows to the front of the house. The premises contained two outhouses of one stable and one cow house.

In the census return for Sconce Lower, Mountrath, Anthony Dowling is crossed out and Anne Dowling is shown as owner of property occupied by Edward Conry. This supports the oral source of her grandson Patrick that she came from Sconce.
