My great grand father was also called Edward , so he would have got the name from his grandad. The further I go back it’s more difficult. I am not in touch with the family in Ireland as I was put up for adoption but Im in touch with a cousin, also based in England, who is also working on her Bryan family tree. John Dowling (1805) as far as I know married a Mary Kelly in Maryborough/Portlaoise in 1828. This I believe these are Edward Dowlings parents as Edwards first son was John. So I’ve been trying to validate this as there is another Edward in Marybough but born to a Hugh and we have no Hughs as a Christian name in our family. What ranch of Dowling are you in and did you do a GED dna upload? I’m in there. Any help with validating the Dowling 1805 connections would be great. Best wishes , Conrad,

"Died on 14th in this town (Maryborough) where he had been for the benefit of his health, Richard Hovendon Esq. aged 37. He served for a short period in the Queen's County Militia and subsequently entered the 34th Regiment in which he not only distinguished himself in the Peninsula War but secured the affection and esteem of every member of that gallant corps. Mr Hovendon's high characteristics as an officer, were equalled only by those of the polished gentleman, the kind son, the parental and affectionate brother & the sincere and steadfast friend.
He is succeeded in his property in this county by his brother Robert Hovendon Esq. ."

Incidentally my aunts Phyllis and Nell started doing some genealogical research, now unfortunately lost, and were shocked at how many first children were born 5-6 months after their parents wedding date! Isn't it wonderful that all those premature babies survived ...
