Looking for info, Michael J. Dowling, from counties Kilkenny & Wexford. Exiled to Van Diemen's Land (Austrila) in 1798, but escaped & went to Newfoundland, where he settled. Generations later, family lived in Chicago. Illionis, USA.

His three sons, Daniel, William and Patrick Dowling. His wife Frances. His dau Mary. His dau. Elizabeth. His mother her part of Newtown. Will dated...... Proved in March 1769. He died at Newtown 16 Jan 1769.
NB. his wife was Frances dau of Robert Finn of Coolfinn. Despite the pressure of the Penal Laws, Patrick, though a Catholic, suceeded in retaining his large holding in Skirk, due probably to the fact that his wife was a Protestant. His children including those mentioned in his will were (?) another son Robert and a dau Frances both of whom died young and are recorded in the Rathdowney Catholic Register.

My father Richard Dowling (born 1911, lives in Reading, Berks, but doesn't know any of the others in Berks) is the grandson of Patrick Dowling, who came over from Dublin in the last century. His (Richard's) father Percy Dowling made brass musical instruments for Boosey (later Boosey and Hawkes); his mother's name was Madeline Green; they lived in London. My father had 2 sisters, Phyllis and Nell, now both deceased. On July 4 there was a mini Dowling family reunion in Tunbridge Wells; anyone go to it?
There also is a shoeshop in Whitchurch, Hants, owned by a Tom Dowling.
Incidentally my aunts Phyllis and Nell started doing some genealogical research, now unfortunately lost, and were shocked at how many first children were born 5-6 months after their parents wedding date! Isn't it wonderful that all those premature babies survived ...

My g Grandmother was Margaret Dowling,born 1841 in N.Y. d-1905-Callao Mo. her father was Patrick Dowling born County of Kildare 1800 came to US in 1821 or 1831, have a few more listed. am new to Dowling research.

Samuel's sister was Mary and she married Dennis Dowling (1776-1840) of Essex Co., NJ and later moved to Canada. One of their daughter's, Phoebe married William Burrage Barnum, related to the circus family. Funny thing is, that I found this relationship through Mary (Edison) Dowling, a 5th cousin 7x removed, and not Dennis. ;)
