Find a Grave Obituary as at 12 April 2025:-
Betty Jean Dowling Bonner, a resident of Wicksburg, passed away Wednesday morning, January 6, 2010 at her residence. She was 80 years old.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 8, 2010 at Pilgrim Home Baptist Church with Rev. Buddy Hood officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. on Friday.

Mrs. Bonner was born November 2, 1929 in Houston County where she lived most of her life. She was employed with First National Bank in Dothan for a brief time before her marriage. Mrs. Bonner was a homemaker and a wonderful cook. Her family always came first and she adored her children and especially spending with her grandchildren. Mrs. Bonner was a member of Pilgrim Home Baptist Church.

Mrs. Bonner is predeceased by her parents J. B. and Flora Dowling and a brother, Edsel Dowling.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Spurgeon Bonner of Wicksburg; a son, Mark Bonner and his wife, Jan of Yadkinville, NC; a daughter, Lynne Lewis of Wicksburg; grandchildren, Nikki Bonner of Wicksburg, Crystal Boyles and her husband, Jeff of Stokes County, NC, Rhett Bonner and Kelli Bonner, both of Yadkinville, NC; one great-grandchild, Cloie Bonner of Wicksburg; a sister, Peggy D. Lee and her husband, Theo of Clayhatchee; a sister-in-law, Betty Ann Dowling of Wicksburg; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Cecil Spurgeon "Spud" Bonner, 90, a resident of Wicksburg, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013 in Bay Minette, Alabama.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Pilgrim Home Baptist Church with Rev. Buddy Hood officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 until 2 p.m. on Saturday prior to service time.

Mr. Bonner was born July 6, 1922 in Dale County and lived the early years of his life there. He later served in the U. S. Army Air Corp. He was a graduate of the University of Alabama where he received his degree in accounting. He was engaged in accounting most all of his working career. He also owned and operated Wicksburg Milling Company for several years. Mr. Bonner was a member of Pilgrim Home Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers and sisters, and his wife, Betty Jean Dowling Bonner.

Survivors include a son, Mark Bonner and his wife Jan, of Yadkinville, NC; a daughter, Lynne Lewis of Wicksburg; grandchildren, Nikki Bonner of Wicksburg, Crystal Boyles and her husband, Jeff of Stokes County, NC, Rhett Bonner and Kelli Bonner, both of Yadkinville, NC; three great-grandchildren, Cloie Bonner and Makenzi Bonner, both of Wicksburg and Toby Boyles of Stokes County, NC; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Betty Ann Dowling was received into the loving presence of her Savior on Monday morning, December 5, 2022 at age 94.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at 10:30 am at Pilgrim Home Baptist Church in Wicksburg, Alabama with Bro. Allen Singley and Rev. Buddy Hood officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service.

Born on June 1, 1928, Betty Ann was a long-time resident of Wicksburg and a devoted member of Pilgrim Home Baptist Church. Her life was marked by hard work, straight-forwardness, generosity, and forgiveness. She loved Christ and others, as was expressed by her faithful love, service and care for family and friends. Her church family was served as she was a dedicated teacher, leader, and choir member. Betty Ann always stood ready to share her faith in Christ, both in word and deed.

Betty Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Edsel Dowling; and her sister-in-law, Betty (Spurgeon) Bonner.

The family wishes to express gratitude to the staff at Westside Terrace Rehabilitation.

James Dowling Holman Mr. James Dowling Holman, age 100 died Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at his home in Dothan. J. D. fought a courageous battle with leukemia. We want to thank Dr. Thomas Brown for his devoted care. Funeral services will be Monday, November 26, 2012, at 2:30 P. M., at the First Presbyterian Church of Dothan, with Pastor Rob C. Oates and Pastor Bob Baxter officiating. Interment will be in Memory Hill Cemetery in Dothan, with Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends Monday at the church at 1:00 P.M. Mr. Holman was born April 22, 1912, in Ozark, Alabama, the son of Jesse DaCosta Holman and Susan Dowling Holman. He majored in business at the University of Alabama. He served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II. J. D. was engaged in the furniture business in Ozark, Houston, Texas, Dothan and Daleville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Hornsby Holman of Centreville, and his daughter, Jane Dowling Holman. Survivors include his daughter, Mary Gene Dowling of Blue Mountain Beach, Florida, and his grandson Blake Dowling and his wife Jeanne of Tallahassee, Florida. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Dothan, 3012 West Main Street, Dothan, Alabama 36305; or to Claybank Memorial Cemetery Association, P.O.
