A new message has been added to Dowling re: Seeking info.-John James Dowling.
Seeking information about the family of John James Dowling, born ? Ireland, 1802: died in 1876 (possibly in Canada): married Anne Kerwin on Aug.1, 1835 in Tullow (Tullowland?). Had 5 children: Catherine, James Thomas, Mary Jane, William John, and Martin (my great grandfather). The family emigrated to Canada at some point, and my grandmother lived in Western New York State. -- I will be traveling to Ireland in the summer and hope to research this further. Any tips will be appreciated.

...we exchanged mails some time back about our mutual interest in Laois County Dowlings/Doolings
I've just been browsing through the GenForum board and interested in some of the postings (plenty by yourself)
This follows a crazy night of researching every known Dooling under the Ancestry.Com site and some weird notion of devising a project called The Dooling/Dowling Diaspora- in this I simpply have built a timeline down one axis and a list of locations along another and every Dooling reference I see has been posted at relevant time/place co-ordinates
This has turned out quite interesting (albeit near useless to my own personal researches) and I was interested to note one of the messages that you replied on last year on the forum - to a lady talking about an ancestor involved in the California Gold Rush.....what caught my eye was the location of that ancestor- Moor Flats California.
Her ansvestor was a Thomas from Kerry (who married a Mary from Wicklow) but she provided no dates. I have located a James F and a John J sons of Patrick and Hanorah of Moor Flats CA around 1863 and wondered if these can't be somehow connected....just wondering if you carried on your correspondence with this lady from the message board- this may or may not be of interest!
Meanwhile, my relentless and so far fruitless pursuit of my own g-g-g-grandfather (stone-mason) THOMAS from Laois County (married Elizabeth there c. 1845 and had a son Daniel c.1846) GOES ON!!!!

Subject: Doolin Family
Brian,
I have a feeling that John Doolin(husband to Ceaty Rowe) might be related to a Maurice Doolin, who was ordered to come to America in 1740 because of a crime commited in Ireland.
I haven't looked at the book but info is in the Journal of the House Of Commons of the Kingdom of Ireland,Volume 7 (1796) pg.56
I have a feeling that abuse and criminal acts was a vicious cycle in this certain family.
PLEASE do not mention this in any forum for my cousin will be very angry, for she does not easily share info. with others when it comes to
Genealogy, because she puts so much time and money into it. BUT she has copies of court Documents stating that Michael Doolin (son of John Doolin) beat and abused his wife.
It is of her Opinion and mine that Mary E. Stephens (wife of Michael) did not leave Michael;but rather was a victim of foul play.If she had left Michael she would have over time contacted her sister or children.she was never seen nor heard of again.
But this is only my opinion.
Keep in touch and let me know of your findings. DALLAS
P.S .I'm related through Michael and Mary's daughter Malinda B. Doolin b.1834 in Madison county,Missouri .she married Daniel Ham( 3rd
marriage), Their daughter Ellendor(Ellie) Francis Ham married Austin Allen Casey. I have a Generation sheet listing all of Michael's Children ;Malinda Doolin's children and the children of her brother Barton Doolin if your interested. -Ends.

-Ends.

I lost my notebook but I do know that these are the names of people involved in baptisms up to August 1824.
Knowing me - and how many things I'm up to - I might not get back to this film for an awful long time - in which case - this would be sitting in my puter of no use to me but maybe of use to someone else.
I have the details as to who is the child of who and sponsors at the baptisms. Some place names are mentioned and then there is also the actual date.
In some instances - I may have had problems reading the name and so inlude a possible other surname which I think it might be.
