Obituary:- A much-loved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend; Laverne Kite Dowling, 99, died July 1, 2019. Born on December 10, 1919 to Wade Hampton and Isabelle Thomas Kite in Gainesville, Florida. She attended Pine Grove Baptist Church where she met and later married her future husband, Charlie T. Dowling on March 9, 1940. She raised their son, Charlie while her husband fought in World War II and later they had a daughter, Dianne.
Laverne was known for her sweet nature, strong faith, hard work and dedication to any task; And for the amazing food that came out of her tiny kitchen. A self-taught cook, Laverne or 'Nannie” was known by many for her fried chicken, homemade biscuits and sour cream pound cake. In addition to cooking, she was an accomplished seamstress, making clothes for her grandchildren and quilting many beautiful heirlooms for family and friends. She could always be found in the early morning faithfully reading her bible at the kitchen table.
Laverne took great pride in her home, built on the land she had grown up on and yet this paled in comparison to the exemplary care she took of her family; Including helping to raise numerous grandchildren, all of which seemed to bring her the greatest joy.
She was a long-time member of the Ridgeview Baptist Church where her celebration of life will be held in Gainesville, Florida, Friday, July 5th at 2pm with visitation at the same location beginning at 1 pm.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Charlie T. Dowling, her son Charlie Dowling Jr., and all of her brothers, sisters and lifelong friends.
Mrs. Dowling is survived by her daughter, Dianne Junior; grandchildren: Dawn Dowling Rudolph, Kelly Junior, Eric Junior, Charlie Dowling III (Lisa), Krystle Thornton (Michael), Justin Junior, and Kristopher Junior (Amber); 5 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson.
Gravesite Details: Buried near (not next to) W Hampton and Isabell Kite.

Mrs. Cora Belle Prevatt, 49, of Macclenny, died Wednesday. A native of Baker County, She was a member of the Church of God. Survivors include her husband, Wesley Prevatt Sr. of Macclenny; one son, Wesley (Billy) Prevatt Jr of Denison, Kan., two daughters, Phyllis Ploucher, and Mrs. Mickie Canaday, both of Macclenny: two sisters, Mrs. Nora Mae Scruggs, of Gainesville; and Mrs. Algie Morris of Miami; a half-sister, Mrs. Louise Paschal, Jacksonville; three step-sisters, Mrs. Violet Rhoden, Mrs. Vadie Crews, both of Macclenny; and Mrs. Ada Echols of Atlanta, Ga.; two brothers, Charlie Dowling, and Dozier Dowling, both of Gainesville; a half-brother, J. L. Dowling of High Springs;- three stepbrothers, Otis Rhoden, Dolic Rhoden and Joe Rhoden, all of MacclennY; and six grandchildren. Services 2 p.m. Saturday in the Macclenny Church of God, the Rev. Lawton B. Thomas officiating. Pallbearers, active: Morris Prevatt, Ray Prevatt, Talmadge Pearce, Joe Newmans, Joe Dohson, and T. J. Raulerson; Honarary: Joe Rhoden, Doice Rhoden, Otis Rhode, B. H. The Florida Times-Union, Wednesday, May 29, 1946 Taylor - Rev. Thomas P.(aul) Taylor, 90, of Macclenny, died yesterday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. P. Combs, in Taylor, after a long illness. He was a native of Georgia, but had lived nearly all his life in Baker County. He was a retired Methodist minister and a member of the Pine Grove Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lokie Taylor, five daughters, Mrs. G. C. Brown, Mrs. J. P. Combs and Mrs. J. I. Harvey, all of Sanderson, Mrs. E. R. Rhoden, Macclenny, Mrs. R. A. Travis, Orange, Texas; three sons, W. B. Taylor, Sanderson, L. M. Taylor, this city, and Dillon Taylor of the U. S. Merchant Marine; two stepdaughters, Mrs. W. J. Mann, Sanderson, and Mrs. Sank Cochran, Jacksonville, three stepsons, Rev. Schiley Rhoden, Starke, Moll Rhoden, Sanderson, and Russell Rhoden, Jacksonville, three sisters, Mrs. Lucinda Cobb, Olustee, Mrs. Missouri Williams, Jacksonville, and Mrs. S. B. Crews, Macclenny, two brothers; J. A. Taylor, Jacksonville, R. E. L. Taylor, Glen St.Mary; 63 grandchildren, 90 great grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 P. M. at the Pine Grove Methodist Church in Taylor with the Rev. Fred P. Combs and Rev. Schiley Rhoden officiating.
Active pallbearers will be the following grandsons: Ralph Taylor, Alton Combs, Ray Brown, J. P. Taylor, Herbert Taylor and Ressie Taylor. Burial will be in Taylor Cemetery under the direction of the Seashole Funeral Parlors.
