Written by descendant Tom Dowling:-

James Dowling was born 17th February 1779 in the town of Errill in Rathdowney, Laois, Ireland, to William Dowling & Sarah Pratt. The sponsors were Roger and Honner Carroll.

James married Anne Maher was from Killough, Clonakenny (less than 2km from Dromard). The marriage record is yet to be found. They then lived in Dromard, Tipperary.

James and Anne appear to have had three children:
Elizabeth Dowling, baptised 17 June 1811 in Templemore;
Sarah Dowling, baptised 27th of September 1812 in Templemore;
Maurice Dowling appears to have been born around 1814, but his baptism record is yet to be traced. However, I confidently consider him to be the sone of James from my father, Jeremiah's, records.
