Citation Detail: From: Catherine Ince ; Sent: 31 October 2025 20:17; To: email address; Subject: Re: Search (1) Hello Brian, I hope you are well and don't mind me contacting you. Where to start? I'm at a brick wall in my family research and lots of the searches I do on Google signpost me to your website. My grandad was Peter Carroll, later with James in the middle. He was born 18/2/1921, possibly in Bagenalstown. I don't know if he had siblings, but he apparently had a step brother James/Jimmy Harrington, believed to be born in 1916 either in Cork or Waterford. I don't know how they became step brothers. Peter's parents on his baptism certificate are Stephen Carroll and Margaret or Maggie Carton. I have no other information about them except for scraps of addresses. There is a strong candidate for Maggie but others related to her insist she never had children. I'd love to know if this links in any way to your family tree or if you could advise me where to go next. I am waiting, impatiently, for my DNA results and the 1926 census. I appreciate you taking the time to read this and any help or information will be very gratefully received. Very best wishes Catherine (2) Ok.....John Francis Wright is my uncle on the other side of my family. He has errors in his tree. My grandad was Peter James Carroll, no James on baptism certificate. Parents named as Stephen Carroll and Maggie Carton. The birth seems not to have been registered. I have nothing then until he enlists in the army in 1940 in Belfast. The address given is Cellarstown, Kilkenny, for him and his parents. Maggie is named as Maggie Carroll, but there's no evidence they married. A later address is given for Maggie, in Wolfe Tone Street in Kilkenny, but she doesn't appear on the electoral register at the address between 1940 (enlistment) and 1946 (marriage and change of next of kin). Peter married Agnes Hackett nee McKelvey in 1946 in Salford, but had children with Frances Harriet Meakin nee Bromage, from 1948, living in Leamington Spa. Peter and Frances married in 1976, by which time I and my cousins were born. Does this help at all? Thank you for looking at this,Catherine,
