My wife is descended from a Michael Daniel Dowling who came to Boston form Ireland where he married Julia Haggerty. He later moved to California to look for gold. He drowned in his own mine in 1866 in Trinity Center, CA.

According to a U.S. Military roster he was born in County Roscommon in 1833. So I suppose that is a county you could do research in.

I haven't really done much to trace this family line yet.

I am looking for info about an ancestor of my wife's that spent some time in Louisiana before going to Ca. Here is the info I have:
Michael Dowling, born in Ireland in about 1833. Don't know how or when he arrived in US. I have found him and his wife, Julia, (born in 1830) on a ships passenger list from San Juan Nicaragua to San Francisco in July 1853 on board the Sierra Nevada. I have followed him until his death in Trinity County Ca. on Jan 18, 1866.
Julia Dowling ("Hagarty", not sure of the spelling) also from Ireland, were married before leaving for Ca. in 1853.
I have found Michael's certificate of citizenship at the NARA in San Bruno Ca. On the certificate it States that Michael filed his intention for citizenship in "Circuit Court of Louisiana" on June 3, 1848. The NARA in Fort Worth found the index for this intention in Index: Volume 1 page 258. However they don't have this Index: Volume.

My current quest is to verify that Michael and Julia did in fact leave from New Orleans to Nicaragua on about July 7, 1853. I can't find any departure lists for the two ships I think they may have been on. I am hoping there is a newspaper from this time frame that I might be able to check. The ships are the Daniel Webster
and the Texas.
I am looking for the Index: Volume 1 that should contain his intention for citizenship record. Also I am hoping to find any marriage record from just prior to the sailing in July 1853. Since both Michael and Julia were Catholic I am hoping there is a church record I might be able to check.
I have checked all the web based lists I can find so, if anyone can point me in the right direction to find any of
this info I would appreciate it very much

I am looking for info about an ancestor of my wife's that spent some time in Louisiana before going to Ca. Here is the info I have:
Michael Dowling, born in Ireland in about 1833. Don't know how or when he arrived in US. I have found him and his wife, Julia, (born in 1830) on a ships passenger list from San Juan Nicaragua to San Francisco in July 1853 on board the Sierra Nevada. I have followed him until his death in Trinity County Ca. on Jan 18, 1866.
Julia Dowling ("Hagarty", not sure of the spelling) also from Ireland, were married before leaving for Ca. in 1853.
I have found Michael's certificate of citizenship at the NARA in San Bruno Ca. On the certificate it States that Michael filed his intention for citizenship in "Circuit Court of Louisiana" on June 3, 1848. The NARA in Fort Worth found the index for this intention in Index: Volume 1 page 258. However they don't have this Index: Volume.

My current quest is to verify that Michael and Julia did in fact leave from New Orleans to Nicaragua on about July 7, 1853. I can't find any departure lists for the two ships I think they may have been on. I am hoping there is a newspaper from this time frame that I might be able to check. The ships are the Daniel Webster
and the Texas.
I am looking for the Index: Volume 1 that should contain his intention for citizenship record. Also I am hoping to find any marriage record from just prior to the sailing in July 1853. Since both Michael and Julia were Catholic I am hoping there is a church record I might be able to check.
I have checked all the web based lists I can find so, if anyone can point me in the right direction to find any of
this info I would appreciate it very much

My wife is descended from a Michael Daniel Dowling who came to Boston form Ireland where he married Julia Haggerty. He later moved to California to look for gold. He drowned in his own mine in 1866 in Trinity Center, CA.

According to a U.S. Military roster he was born in County Roscommon in 1833. So I suppose that is a county you could do research in.

I haven't really done much to trace this family line yet.
