Francis was the fifth of seven children of George and Elizabeth Adams Elgin, born about 1725. He was present at the formation of Loudoun County in 1757, being appointed on the second page of the Court Minute Books as assistant to Aeneas Campbell. Interesting that at that time Aeneas was married to Lydie Cartwright, Rebecca's sister.

Francis married Rebecca Cartwright in Maryland about 1754. He left the family in Maryland until he had purchased land and had a home to bring them to. His oldest son, Gustavus, testafied in his pension application of 1832 that he was born in Maryland and lived there with his maternal grandparents until the family moved to Loudoun.

They had eleven known children.

I have added Francis to this cemetery (Elgin) although we have not found a stone for him, because this is the land he purchased in 1761, and lived on until his death. It was then divided between his oldest three sons, Gustavus, Walter, and Francis Jr. We have found stones for children of Gustavus and Walter, and I am sure many of the first two generations, maybe three generations, of Elgins were buried here prior to the opening of Union Cemetery in Leesburg in 1851.

John was the son of Thaddeus Dulin and Elizabeth Powell. He had nine siblings. About 1800 Thaddeus moved his entire family to Kentucky, except for his son John, whose wife Rebecca could not travel at the time, and his daughter, Ann who was married to Enoch Francis.

John served in the War of 1812 and was injured and confined to a wheel chair. His wheel chair is on display at the Loudoun County Museum in Leesburg.

John and Rebecca's Family Bible exists, but has not been made generally available. However, I have a transcription made by Aunt Nell in the 1920s and a transcription made by another researcher in the last decade. They match. Dates and information given is from these transcriptions.

Children not yet found, so are not linked, are as follows:

Nancy and Betsy Dulin, twins, born 26 Dec 1797 in Loudoun County, VA. They died as infants. No other information is available.

Thomas Dulin, born 3 Mar 1799 in Loudoun County, VA, probably died before 1841.

Unnamed son Dulin, born 1 Dec 1800 in Loudoun County, VA, died Jan 1801.

Sanford Dulin, born 17 Feb 1808 in Loudoun County, VA, apparently died before 1841.

Thaddeus Dulin, born 10 Jun 1809 in Loudoun County, VA, apparently died before 1841.

Lydia Ann Dulin Latimer, born 5 Oct 1814 in Loudoun County, VA, apparently died before 1860. She married John Latimer, 11 Feb 1836, at Green Plains, Loudoun County, VA. They were in Missouri by 1838, and had four children.

There is no marker for John. At the time of his death, in fact until after Rebecca died, John and Rebecca owned the land where the cemetery lies. It is certainly the family cemetery.
