Obituary:- Jimmie Lee Farmer Dowling - (February 12, 1929 - December 18, 2009)

Jimmie Lee Farmer Dowling, 80, of Waycross died early Friday morning (Dec. 18, 2009) at her residence after an extended illness. She was born and raised in Waycross to the late Thomas A. and Dollie Mae Branch Farmer.

She had made Waycross her home most of her life, only moving away as her husband was transferred with his job at CSX Railroad. They moved back to Waycross for good 27 years ago. Mrs. Dowling was a homemaker and expert gardener. She was a Charter member of the Okefenokee Chapter #474 of the Eastern Star where she was the first Worthy Matron. She also was a Charter member, secretary and Board of Director with the Waycross/Ware County Sports Hall of Fame. Mrs. Dowling was an avid church worker and member of First Christian Church. She volunteered for many years with the Food Pantry ministries at Central Baptist Church and First Christian Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by four brothers, J.C. Farmer, Thomas Farmer, Leonard Farmer and Theodore Farmer.

She is survived by her husband, James Edward Dowling, Sr., Waycross; two sons, Coach Ed Dowling and his wife Leea, Waycross, Jimmy Dowling and his wife, Michelle, Rincon, Georgia, six grandchildren, Dr. Carrie Dowling, Cross, South Carolina, J.W. Dowling, Cross, South Carolina, Laurelee Dowling, St. Simons Island, Georgia, Lauren Dowling, Lawrenceville, Georgia, Shelby Dowling, Rincon, Georgia, Georgia Dowling, Rincon, Georgia; one great grandson, Landon Dowling, Cross, South Carolina; two brothers, John Farmer, Waycross, Jack Farmer, Macon, Georgia and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m., Sunday afternoon in Oakland Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 5 – 7 at the Miles-Odum Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Satilla, 317 Plant Avenue, Waycross, Georgia 31501. Sympathy may be expressed online at www.milesodumfuneralhome.com.

Obituary:- The gates of Heaven were opened wide welcoming Mrs. Gussie Lee Dowling Pearson, 78 of Hoboken, home. Mrs. Pearson passed away Friday evening, October 17, 2014, at the Southeast Georgia Health System - Camden Campus following a battle with cancer. From September 16th to October 17th she had been a resident of the Senior Care Center Nursing Home in St. Mary’s.

Born in Fort Mudge - Waycross, GA on June 8, 1936, she had lived in Brantley County all of her life. Mrs. Pearson was a 1954 graduate of Wacona High School and had worked at sewing factories in Jesup and Waycross during the ‘70’s. She had also worked on the family farm but her true calling was being a loving caregiver to anyone who needed it. Always taking care of someone, Mrs. Pearson still found time to enjoy reading, gardening, fishing, and occasionally gambling with the three - sometimes four - musketeers (You all know who you are!). She was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and will be greatly missed by her family whom she loved so much.

She was a daughter of the late Darling Edward “Bud” & Maryann Brooker Dowling. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Everett “Bud” Pearson; a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Pearson; a stillborn son, Ricky Pearson; and by a brother, Jimmy “Carl” Dowling.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Shelia & Thomas W. Vickers, Jr. (her partner in crime!) of Hoboken; 2 granddaughters, Erin Elizabeth Vickers Lee (Josh) of Kingsland and Ana Leigh Vickers of Hoboken; a great granddaughter, Elizabeth Grace (the apple of her eye); a sister, Edna (Donnie) Sylvester of Kingsland; two brothers, J. D. Dowling and Joe Dowling both of Kingsland; two sisters-in-law, Betty Jean Dowling of Woodbine and Sally Pearson of Hoboken; 2 brothers-in-law, David A. Pearson of San Antonio, TX and Gene Turner of Savannah; two special friends, Diane Woodard and family of Hoboken and Dorothy Strickland Mays and family of Waycross; two very loving and kind transporters, Gene Murray and Chris Goble with Okefenokee EMS; and several nieces, nephews & other relatives.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Okefenokee EMS, Inc., 611 Riverside Drive, Waycross, GA 31501.

Visitation for Mrs. Pearson will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

The family is also receiving friends at the home of Mrs. Pearson's sister-in-law, Sally Pearson, at 5587 Hwy. 82, Hoboken.

Funeral services for Mrs. Pearson will be held Monday afternoon, October 20, 2014, at 3:00 o’clock from the Pearson-Dial Chapel.

Interment will be in the High Bluff Cemetery.
