Obituary:
Mr. Morris Elmer "Buddy" Dowling, Jr., 66, passed away early Saturday morning, October 12, 2013, at Mayo Health System - Waycross.
Born in Waycross, GA on October 14, 1946, he had lived in Pierce County all of his life. A 1964 graduate of Blackshear High School, Mr. Dowling went on to work as the supervisor of the fertilizer department for The Brantley Company. He then worked for D & M International Sales doing paint and body work before becoming a correctional officer with Ware Correctional Institute. Probably his most notable job has been working with children at his family's preschool/daycare, Lollipop Kids.
Mr. Dowling had a passion for sports and working with children which led to jumpstarting the Pierce County Recreational Department along with several other "sports dads". Over the years he coached many Pee Wee Tiger football teams and Midget Baseball teams.
Mr. Dowling was a man who wore many hats. He was known as daddy, coach, Uncle Buddy, papa and to all of his Lollipop babies, he will always be Mr. Buddy. He always had a smile on his face and looked for the positive in any situation - a wonderful trait he instilled in his sons. He liked simple things like riding the dirt roads and was from the "old school" where you didn't get in a hurry but rather took your time to talk and visit with people. An avid hunter and fisherman, he was a member of Eagles Nest Hunting Club in Folkston and was a former member of the Camden County Hunting Club.
A proud grandfather who loved to spend time with his grandchildren, they could do no wrong in his eyes. He never missed going to a cheerleading competition or any other game or sporting event that his grandchildren were in, and was always at the Pierce County football games. PC Nation has sadly lost one of its biggest fans.
He was a son of the late Morris Elmer Dowling, Sr. and Elsie Caroline Lee Dowling.
Survivors include his wife, Cindy Bowen Dowling of Blackshear; two sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Jill Dowling of Patterson and David & Leslie Dowling of Blackshear; his step-mother, Mildred Dowling of Blackshear; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Carolyn & Marvin Pipkin of St. Simons Island and Marilyn & Jimmy Bowen of Blackshear; three aunts, Mary & Troy Stanfield and Willene Lee all of Blackshear and Lillian Lee of Patterson; four grandchildren, Meg Dowling, Allie Dowling, Drake Dowling and Caroline Dowling, and several nieces, nephews & other relatives.
Memorials:
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Mr. Buddy's memory to The Pierce County Recreational Department.
Visitation:
Visitation for Mr. Dowling will be held from 1 until 3 pm at the church on Monday.
Service:
Funeral services for Mr. Dowling will be held at 3 o'clock, Monday afternoon, October 14, 2013 - his birthday, from the First Baptist Church.
The family asks that members of the Blackshear High School Class of 1964, the staff of Lollipop Kids along with their families and the past and present coaches and employees of The Pierce County Recreational Department to serve as honorary pallbearers. Please meet at the church by 2:30 Monday afternoon.
Cemetery: Interment will be in the Blackshear Cemetery.

Lorenzo Carroll Russell
Lorenzo Carroll Russell, 81, of Blackshear, passed away suddenly Tuesday evening, Jan. 14, 2003, at the Satilla Regional Medical Center. A native of Laurens County, he had lived in Pierce County for several years. He was a graduate of Savannah High School, Armstrong Junior College and Woodrow Wilson College of Law in Atlanta. He practiced law for many years in Southeast Georgia and served as the leading attorney for the Federal Land Bank of Columbia, SC and as Solicitor of State Court of Pierce County. Mr. Russell was a Scottish Rite Mason and served his country in the US Navy during World War II. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class.
He was a son of the late James A. and Laura Hayslip Russell and was also preceded in death by a brother, James A. Russell.
Survivors are his wife, Doris Dowling Russell, Blackshear; a daughter, Dr. Nancy Thornton, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; three grandchildren, Nechelle (John) Stamm, Atlanta, Ashlee Thornton, New Orleans and Russell Thornton, Athens; a great- granddaughter, Olivia Stamm, Atlanta and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, from the Pearson-Treadwell Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Bill Young officiating. Interment followed in the Blackshear Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pierce County Nursing Home.
Pearson-Treadwell Funeral Home of Blackshear was in charge of arrangements.
