Family history has her as the daughter of Evin Layton Dowling and his second wife "Ronny" Ironia Rhoden. They have not been located in the census together.
Nettie Dowling age 9 was enumerated in the Pierce County, GA 1910 Federal Census in the household of Alfred and Lizzie Hickox. Also enumerated in the household are Ethel Dowling and an adopted boy. Both girls are enumerated as nieces of Alfred since both of his wives were sisters of Evin Layton Dowling.
Nettie married the youngest son of Malachi and Nellie Sellers Thompson....William Thompson, a veteran of the First World War. According to Will's WWI Registration dated 1917, the newly weds lived on his parents' farme in Hilliard, FL with his widowed mother. Just before 1920, the couple moved to St Augustine, FL, where several of Will's siblings had already migrated
Will and Nettie had five children before his early death in 1934.
Just before WWII, widow Nettie Thompson married Dorsey Lee Hankins in Putnam Co, FL in 1941. The war was over in 1945 with both her sons returning home. Records show they lived in St Augustine through 1949 before relocating to Alabama. Most of the children, including Dorsey's daughter from his first marriage, were adults, yet Nellie's daughters went to AL also. D L was mechanic and a driver, and at one time worked at the Navy Air Station in Jacksonville.
Children with unknown grave sites and not listed in the relationship lists are Thelma Thompson, who married Rex Cook, died June 1992 in Pushmataha, AL, and
Carrie Belle Thompson, who married Frank Burrous.

Obituary:- Mrs. Sarah Luverne Hall, 87, of Waycross, died Wednesday evening at Satilla Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.
She was born in Brantley County to the late John Randall Dowling and Vandella Hickox Dowling.
Mrs. Hall had lived in Palatka, Florida from 1958 until 1986 when she moved back to Brantley County. She had also lived in Savannah, and Maryland.
Mrs. Hall was mainly a homemaker but did work for a brief period in her husbands bakery business, Palatka Bakery.
In Waycross she was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. At Pleasant Valley she was a member of the Mary Dorsey Sunday School Class and the Joy Group. Mrs. Hall was also a member of the Woodmen of the World. She loved to travel, shop and spend time with family and friends.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Coma Edward Hall, a daughter, Peggy Peck, a great great grandson, Hunter Dean Crews, seven brothers, Jimmy Dowling, Layton Dowling, Everett Dowling, Lonnie Dowling, Randall Dowling, Ivey Dowling, Wilbur Dowling, six sisters, Laney Dowling Dubose, Viola Dowling Griffin, Mattie Dowling Altman, Ida Dowling Altman, Sophroney Dowling Carter, Eva Dowling Griffin, and a husband, Virgal Chesser.
Mrs. Hall is survived by her children, William Clyde Chesser, and his wife Margie of Waycross, Doris Jean Sanders of Pensacola, Florida, Thomas A. Chesser, of Hoboken, Robert Lester Chesser, and his wife Izetta of Jacksonville, Florida, Lottie Chesser Jordan of Green Cove Springs, Florida, Connie Boaz Hiott, and her husband Mark, of Savannah, Betty Jo Hickox, and her husband Frank, of Gainesville, Florida, Vanessa L. Walen, and her husband Bill of Savannah, fourteen grandchildren, Shirleen Chesser Dunn, and her husband Rev. Charles Dunn of Waycross, Teresa Chesser Hoskins, and her husband Cecil, of Jacksonville, Florida, Tammy Penna Hayes of Pensacola, Florida, Mary Lynn Chesser Dymond, and her husband Pete of Jacksonville, Florida, Robert Jason Chesser of Jacksonville, Florida, Kelly Hingston of Brunswick, James Morris Ellis of Jacksonville, Florida, Janice Marie Ellis of West Virginia, Kimberly Jordan of Palatka, Florida, Stephanie Boaz of Nashville, Tennessee, Amy Hickox Masters and her husband Clint of Marietta, Georgia, Tracy Hickox and her husband Tankut nal, M.D. of Springfield, Illinois, Matthew Scott Durrett of Savannah, Michael Scott McElroy of Rincon, twenty four great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, a special friend, Lavada Miles of Palatka, Florida, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.
Burial will follow in Mars Hill Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Members of the Mary Dorsey Sunday School Class have been asked to serve as honorary pallbearers and should gather at the church by 1:30 p.m., on Saturday.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6-8 p.m., at the Miles-Odum Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, Building Fund, 7136 Central Ave., Waycross, Georgia 31503.
