Walter C. Ashley
Walter C. "Jack" Ashley passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2000.
He was born and raised in the south side of Jacksonville, a graduate of Landon High School. For the past 13 years he and his wife, Harriette, have been residing in Pomona Park on Lake Broward. He served several years in the Army and was a veteran of World War II. He imparted a strong work ethic to his children and retired after having worked 28 years in civil service at Jacksonville Naval Air Station. He was a lover of Florida's waterways and was a fisherman since childhood. He took up golf in his later years, and enjoyed all outdoor activities, especially with his family.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Joey Dowling.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Harriette Harrold Ashley; children, Linda M. Ashley, Allen "Hal" Ashley and wife, Kathy Ashley, Michael Ashley, Tammy Ashley Werninck and her husband, Keith; grandchildren, Kelly and Keith Walsky, Allen Ashley, Jamie and Dave Fletcher, Sara Werninck; brothers, James Ashley and Morris Ashley; and numerous other family members.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m. at Eubanks Memorial Cemetery on Yellow Bluff Road off North Main Street, Jacksonville, with Rev. John Andes officiating.
The family will receive friends today, 5-6:30 p.m. at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, Jacksonville.
The family requests in lieu of flowers donations may be made to American Cancer Society, Patients Assistance, 425 North Palm Avenue, Palatka, Florida 32177.
