Was a botany student during the war. On New Year's Eve, 1918, she married Robert Priestly a Canadian soldier about to return home. They first came to Calgary, where she grew to love the mountains & prairies. They then spent three years in Victoria & moved to Winnipeg, where she added bird study to her earlier interrupted studies on botany. In 1935, with three small children, she moved to Yorkton, Saskatchewan.

She co-authored a weekly wildlife column and led nature hikes. She prepared a list of 200 species of local wildlife and printed 75 copies of it. Reprints were requested from all over. The Yorkton Natural History Society and the provincial newsletter the "Blue Jay" were the eventual fruit of her activities. Within four years the Blue Jay was selling 500 copies. She received high praise from P.A. Taverner, the dean of Canadian ornithologists.

Isabel Priestly died suddenly from a brain tumour at the age of 52. The Blue Jay is still published by the 2,000 member Saskatchewan Natural History Society. The last entry in her daily diary read:

"Lovely morning. Walked out along the tracks on west road. Meadowlarks singing, juncos everywhere, blue jays around the fir trees. Ponds frozen over, no ducks or redwings, just one Brewer's. On way home heard a blue jay singing."
