You are at the ground level looking WSW close-up. This shows the NE Tower which had 4 floors up to the roof. The crack does not look good, does it? The castle needs some TLC!. The fissure could have been cause by the Cromwellian Commonwealth Officers, Hewson and Reynolds, who "Slighted" the castle in 1656 to make it indefensible. The Cromwellians also confiscated the land and castle here for the British Parliament. You can go back or left. You cannot go forward as there is no entrance in this wall. You cannot go right because of vegetation but you can see the foundation remains of a structure on the ground. |
