You are at the ground level looking west-south-west from the gate. Clonreher Castle is what is called a 'Z-Plan' tower. That means it has one large tower and two smaller towers on opposite corners. Towers can be rounded but in this case they are rectangular. The other tower is in the opposite corner out of view and is the same size as the one you can see. The castle has 4 levels: a small lower level under one of the towers, a ground floor, 1st floor (although the timber floor has gone and the ground and 1st floor look like one large hall, a second floor above the hall's vaulted ceiling which was once roofed and finally the two towers have a 3rd level above that. You can go forward to get closer, left or back. You can't go right as there is farm machinery and vegetation in the way. |
