31 August 2025:- Total 53,503 including living. Sunday Double Back Up. More sources for new and existing people, an image... and shopping!
30 August 2025:- Total 53,496 including living. A few more sources for existing people but mostly out walking in the woods today then in the garden, trimming hedges... the garden doesn't wait for me to finish a family tree.
29 August 2025:- Total 53,495 including living. More sources for a Renshaw connection to Dowling. Largely confirming good family tree work already done by the correspondent but has had interesting elements to learn from.
28 August 2025:- Total 53,487 including living. Mostly sources for existing people in Suffolk and some frameworks for tomorrow. Plus a really nice picture of Catherin Cantwell.
27 August 2025:- Total 53,474 including living. More sources for existing people and some frameworks (people without sources awaiting source additions).
26 August 2025:- Total 53,455 including living. More sources for existing people and a few more people added on the way. Still looking into John Rampling, who has a Dowling connection, and was double checking his mother and, for reasons I don't fathom, up comes a military document that was not in a search results list before. So, more work tomorrow.
25 August 2025:- Total 53,446 including living. Mostly looking for some military detail for a non-Dowling linked to the family. Records are very poor as many personnel military records are systematically destroyed but those found seem to point to a high probability for John Rampling. Also have to pick-up Dowlings that appear on the same pages as I go. Added some great photos of buildings provided by Pat Dowling that have a use to the Study beyond his direct line.
24 August 2025:- Total 53,439 including living. Sunday Double Back Up. Added an extra back up for Sunday now, it takes longer but having had a hard drive fail (albeit with my back up system working to preserve the data) it is clear that I can't trust technology. Added some more tinkering around the Ireland Timelines and some people in Mountrath.
23 August 2025:- Total 53,437 including living. More sources for Dublin lines today with some work on Timelines. These are interesting for adding context to research but its tricky to get a generic list that is in the 'Goldilocks' Zone' - not too little and not too much.
22 August 2025:- Total 53,433 including living. A good few sources for existing Dublin Dowlings and relatives added today but also a merge of 3 Jeremiah Dowlings. Originally captured, one many years ago, and unable to find grounds to decide they are one and the same, so a very good day. Have an idea for adding Timelines but need a clear day of coding.
21 August 2025:- Total 53,432 including living. Added some records for Dublin Cantwell family connected to Dowlings and a few more on the Cardiff Dowling line.
20 August 2025:- Total 53,424 including living. Added a generation of Welsh Dowlings and spent some time setting an ORA(Online Repository Assistant) template for capturing data from the National Burial Index. Working with code is not my strongpoint but it will be worth the effort when I get another NBI entry.
19 August 2025:- Total 53,415 including living. Back today with some additions for Ireland and Wales Dowling, enough to get back in the swing. Have some projects lined up and correspondence still to top n' tail.
17 August 2025:- Total 53,406 including living. Sunday Single Back Up. Busy with family... had big 70th birthday party which needed a lot of organising and preparation, not to mention a huge amount of work to spruce-up the garden.
10 August 2025:- Total 53,404 including living. Sunday Single Back Up and Back Up refurbishment following hard drive failure last week... took some time. Added an image of St Catherine's Church, Meath Street, Dublin and changed an age of death.
9 August 2025:- Total 53,404 including living. A few additions despite a merge of a couple of people which I laboured over today. In the absence of clear data now and again I use probability to make a hypothetical judgement... this normally works very well for me as in some regions I have a good grip of the Dowlings 'available' but I found what appears to be an error in my logic on one case today. I am not an arrogant person by nature and errors don't happen often but I am willing admit I make mistakes... in fact, oddly compared to some other people, I love finding and error or being informed of a correction as it feeds the accuracy I intend (not to mention often releasing a fact or even person to be connected to someone else).
8 August 2025:- Total 53,399 including living. A lot of looking and not finding today. A few framework entries pending sources added for an Australian line... very busy with other things this coming week, so site may not change dramatically.
7 August 2025:- Total 53,394 including living. More Dublin sources added for existing people and found another son for the family that, after being orphaned, appears to have gone astray but more research to be done before I can connect the two Jeremiahs! Some work fixing the broken hard drive from last week as a new one arrived. The data, in this case my music collection, is safe but just has to be restored from a back up. It seems you can't have enough back ups because technology is out to get you! Another email has arrived and gardening calls. Busy, busy, busy.
6 August 2025:- Total 53,390 including living. More Dublin sources added. Spent a lot of time looking for a death for a Julia Dowling... there are two obvious ones and it seems to me neither apply. I have checked for remarrying but if she has gone abroad it gets trickier.
5 August 2025:- Total 53,377 including living. Additional sources for existing people in Dublin and Laois. Tidied up some more parish sources so that they list better by parish name rather than county (County was good until so many crossed county boundaries).
4 August 2025:- Total 53,371 including living. Another merge on this Laois line, busy with other things too.
3 August 2025:- Total 53,373 including living. Sunday Single Back Up (but had an issue with a hard drive crashing needing to be replaced, if I didn't do a lot of backing up this would be traumatic but, having no faith in computers and their peripherals, I am prepared for technology to fail). Added more people but merged some too which is great work when one can finally identify that two people are in fact one and the same person. Did some Source tidying... there is so much to do before I retire from genealogy!
2 August 2025:- Total 53,373 including living. Another email adding a Jeremiah to a Mountrath family (my father came from Mountrath) and with short time I had found the baptism and merged him with a Jeremiah who later worked for Guinness brewery. The best connections in genealogy come from your input so keep them coming.
1 August 2025:- Total 53,370 including living. Monthly Double Back Up. Diverted from Tinryland by an interesting message from Australia about a Father Christopher Vincent Dowling with some excellent information. He was pretty much the 3rd priest to go to New South Wales in the 1830s when it was very much a wild west! It looks like he had hurdles and trials but pretty much got on with his job as he saw it. A character to respect. More to do here even though the Dublin records for him do not seem available.
31 July 2025:- Total 53,357 including living. Yet more marriages from Tinriland, Carlow. Some unravelling as Dowling siblings marry Norton siblings... nice.
