30 September 2024:- Total 50,731 including living. Manchester Dowling's today a family and ancestors added with some more to go. Again a possible link to Ireland although it is contradicted on different censuses.
29 September 2024:- Total 50,716 including living. Sunday Single Back Up. Numbers down by one for a merge... on a John Dowling - an achievement of negative evidence (i.e. conflicting facts found to apply to someone else so it therefore must be this person). Cannot pin down this John Dowling in Ireland, where he was born though. While a lot of the mariner records for Liverpool apply, I am quite confident, to him they just carry so little connectable evidence.
28 September 2024:- Total 50,717 including living. More Liverpool Dowlings added with another family for elimination purposes but may turn out the previous generation... lots of baby deaths in the family. Sad, and obviously an issue for 1830's Liverpool.
27 September 2024:- Total 50,698 including living. More Liverpool Dowlings added. Down to a John and Mary Dowling... it doesn't get more typical than that and, with so many John and Marys, it will be difficult to break through this barrier.
26 September 2024:- Total 50,682 including living. Some Liverpool Dowlings added... and some medal mounting to tidy up my in-tray... so many things to do.
25 September 2024:- Total 50,672 including living. Some Irish Dowlings in Preston Lancashire today... including a merge and one more generation back.
24 September 2024:- Total 50,663 including living. More sources for existing people and solved an old identification issue on a Dowling/Doolan from Offaly.
23 September 2024:- Total 50,663 including living. Some sources for existing people but mostly mounting some medals I purchased for my collection of a John Dowling RN. Medals are quite tricky to store in a way that makes browsing through them easy.
22 September 2024:- Total 50,663 including living. Sunday Single Back Up. Added a Yorkshire family originally from Laois today. Slow day.
21 September 2024:- Total 50,652 including living. Mostly sources for existing people in Aston Birmingham. A few associated photos and I'll be moving on from that branch until I get some family contact.
20 September 2024:- Total 50,649 including living. Just one marriage and some birth sources for existing people as busy in garden today, before the rain tomorrow.
19 September 2024:- Total 50,648 including living. Found a daughters line from the Birmingham Dowling branch, leading to a 1921 census entry and some deaths. Nice when the separate sources give clues for other sources. Mostly in the garden today.
18 September 2024:- Total 50,641 including living. Added four more sources for existing Dowlings in Birmingham and think I have found a second marriage... these are often tricky to spot.
17 September 2024:- Total 50,641 including living. Lots added from Aston in Birmingham... soon to Ireland.
16 September 2024:- Total 50,624 including living. More sources for existing people in Birmingham... and painting the garden summer house (glorified shed!)
15 September 2024:- Total 50,623 including living. Sunday Single Back Up. Lots of sources for existing people, including trying to work out the chronology of navy postings for John Dowling.
13 September 2024:- Total 50,617 including living. Mostly sources for existing people today and some source refurbishment from olde Ancestry sources which had little support information.
12 September 2024:- Total 50,613 including living. All sources today for existing people in Birmingham. I think I have connected them to Galway but I have noticed that earlier they are consistently called Dolan on births but Dowling in Censuses. Oh well, they are in the system!
11 September 2024:- Total 50,613 including living. Birmingham line from Ireland sources today. Managed to find Patrick Dowling's with as Ann Dunn, so hopefully one more generation back if I'm lucky.
10 September 2024:- Total 50,589 including living. Mostly sorting out old negatives and their newly digitised files. Started on new Birmingham family where I purchased a set of WW1 medals in auction, a fair amount of information here and looks as if it leads to Ireland.
9 September 2024:- Total 50,578 including living. A few updates but mostly scanning olde negatives to convert to digital... this is such a slow process.
8 September 2024:- Total 50,576 including living. Sunday Single Back Up. Busy today visiting an old railway station and with my son being ill but added a few sources and pictures.
7 September 2024:- Total 50,566 including living. A few more Kilkenny records and a Lisburn marriage relating to a medal for sale.
6 September 2024:- Total 50,549 including living. Added some more Kilkenny Dowling baptisms, tying-in with censuses as I go.
5 September 2024:- Total 50,518 including living. Finished the one family but still in Kilkenny looking at another.
4 September 2024:- Total 50,509 including living. Mostly gardening but added more sources from Kilkenny. Will probably stop on this line tomorrow, as I think I am at the end of church records on this family for Muckalee with no clues as to where they were before. Added some peripheral baptisms as I went... that is, for example, when I find a baptism for a family I am tracking I also add to the database any other Dowling baptisms on the same image even if they do not apparently relate to the focus family. It takes time now but saves it later... and saves several images as all are linked to the one image.
3 September 2024:- Total 50,498 including living. More sources from Kilkenny. It would have been so easy to have picked the wrong Thomas Dowling out of those available... it took looking at the whole family to get it right.

1 September 2024:- Total 50,468 including living. Sunday Double Back Up. Added some census records from Ireland and refurbished some UK sources. The Ireland birth, marriage and deaths website has been down for three days... so its not just us small websites with technical issues!
31 August 2024:- Total 50,460 including living. Added many Kilkenny St John's baptisms today despite being at a classic car show. There are over 19 distinct Dowling families in this region in the 1840s alone.
