1 August 2024:- Total 49,948 including living. Monthly Double Back Up. Sent off another report today. Split one family into two in Australia that was put together as a hypothesis and... I admit it, forgotten about. Now to work on Joy's email from Australia and hope I can add something.
31 July 2024:- Total 49,911 including living. Sent off Tom's report today onto dropbox as its too big for email. I have to tweak the data so it looks good in a report, for example, many landscape document scans have to be rotated to be portrait, or else they are too small when printed. We are in a heat wave at the moment so no gardening... but its still growing.
30 July 2024:- Total 49,911 including living. Added some peripheral families; also looking at toping and tailing my work on Tom's document and started adding Timelines before I create a final report.
29 July 2024:- Total 49,902 including living. Went to sister's birthday party and chatted to lot of people about family history... obtained more work to do! Then went for a drive to Ramsgate, Kent and went around the old World War 2 Tunnels, very interesting indeed. Took photo of plaque on old fire station opened by mayor R Dowling... need to make sure s/he's in the system.
28 July 2024:- Total 49,902 including living. Sunday Single Back Up. No genealogy today as doing 'real' family history at my sister's 60th birthday party!
27 July 2024:- Total 49,902 including living. A few sources and a lot of looking not finding. Trying to sort out some anomalies which is satisfying in the end.
26 July 2024:- Total 49,892 including living. Looking up some peripheral families today for completeness... took longer than I thought... interesting newspaper article on a murder of Philip Tierney.
25 July 2024:- Total 49,889 including living. Some related families added including some more living which don't show online but are often crucial in my database for connecting people.
24 July 2024:- Total 49,878 including living. More of Tom's people adding sources. Also attended a classic car rally today... not keen on that much CO2 but some of the older models were works of art... I'd just like to electrify them!
23 July 2024:- Total 49,870 including living. More people still coming out of on Tom's text... many living, and therefore, not showing on the website but important for the future.
22 July 2024:- Total 49,849 including living. More on Tom's text... pulling out the facts and compiling it for the database and website format. A few more sources and images. Also fixed a Lists/Places issue where many people were showing up in countries they had no connection with.
21 July 2024:- Total 49,842 including living. Sunday Single Back Up. More on Tom Dowling's document text, also adding some Nottinghamshire Dowlings.
20 July 2024:- Total 49,833 including living. A good merge today having found a parish marriage incorrectly transcribed Mathew as Martin... easy done I guess. More texts, including sorting out where stories about one person are included in one person's narrative but not in the text for the person they refer to. In the whole rewarding work. A lot of gardening.
19 July 2024:- Total 49,828 including living. More image work on Tom's tree... and that's pretty much done. So now to extract all the data from the text and place it in the person pages... there is a lot there but I am nearly finished on the Dowlings.
18 July 2024:- Total 49,827 including living. More image work on Tom's tree... He sent me such a rich document it will take a while to process. We are in a mini-heatwave. I don't get the 'right' weather for outdoor working its either raining or baking, we seem to have lost the in-between.
17 July 2024:- Total 49,817 including living. More image work on Tom's tree... Some are such low resolution there is nothing I can do to give the photos clarity for portraits, nevertheless it is still great to have an image even a pixelated or blurry one.
16 July 2024:- Total 49,816 including living. More image work on Tom's tree... it's great to see his research written-up, it must be very welcome among his family. Not sure where my day went!
15 July 2024:- Total 49,812 including living. Put up a new Branch on Marcia's tree and created and sent a report. Altered generic silhouettes to similar colour to webpage colour (you may not notice it but I do!) Back to Tom's great document, screen capturing some of his images and formatting for the website... this take me a while. Australia query on hold.
14 July 2024:- Total 49,812 including living. Sunday Single Back Up. Toping and tailing the correspondence for the New Jersey branch... I think I have hit a halt with it as the oldest ancestor I can find is a John Dowling from New Jersey and there are a few around looking much the same pending any new records. I will inform the correspondent tomorrow to see if she has more clues.
13 July 2024:- Total 49,808 including living. A couple of census entries in New Jersey. Spent some time fixing the Lists/Places pages... they seem to work now too. Tries some other tweaks to the website code... this always takes me time as I work by trial and error; and slowly. Gardening.
12 July 2024:- Total 49,805 including living. Managed to repair the website back to the pre-close-down state. The 'Daily Context', which took me a while to make, had attracted some additional php code from somewhere - just one ">" had stopped it functioning! Anyway that's up now so I can start on improvements and genealogy.
11 July 2024:- Total 49,805 including living. Odd day. Had a minor operation to try to unblock my tear ducts with a tiny 'bottle-brush'... that failed and now have to have a more serious attempt. Added some sources and Find a Grave references but also still deep in trying to repair the website from being down for two months... fixed one format issue and now have to get the 'Daily Context' to work properly before I tackle any new facilities.
10 July 2024:- Total 49,801 including living. Trying to repair the website and answer 4 correspondence queries at the moment. One in New Jersey, others in Australia and Ireland. I think it actually got busier when the site went down!
9 July 2024:- Total 49,768 including living. Mostly trying to relaunch the website in answer to several correspondents. A re-jig of the software I use made it less easy for me to use but I think it's back more or less... some tweaks to do amid the enquiries. As if to make matters worse, my e-mail client wouldn't launch today, that took precious hours to sort out. Busy, busy, busy.
8 July 2024:- Total 49,767 including living. More sources for existing people and lots of hunting. Re-established the software to convert the database to a website, so, should be back on-line tomorrow maybe.
7 July 2024:- Total 49,764 including living. Sunday Single Back Up. More sources added and a lot of time unravelling correspondence errors, quite rewarding to be able to offer a 'second opinion'.
6 July 2024:- Total 49,761 including living. Lots of sources added today in Ireland, should be able to send a report on this line tomorrow... there's a lot of them!
5 July 2024:- Total 49,754 including living. Trying to sort out related 'Dunns' with 'typical' names in Mountrath today. Tricky and very easy to get the wrong one, a breakthrough was one with a three marriages... not too common.
4 July 2024:- Total 49,746 including living. Lots of double-checking as my findings contradict a correspondent's tree. The issue may revolve around the name Johanna often being abbreviated as Julia in Ireland... no, I don't know why!
