Mary was born to Maurice Dowling and Hannah Lowe in 1957 but by the time Mary was a teenager both parents abandoned her.
Her mother, Hanna, later moved to Germany and Maurice would remarry much later and had two children from the second marriage.
Mary continued to keep in touch with her uncle, my dad Jer, and he sent her money occasionally and he visited her in Nottingham. She had a troubled life, married 3 times and, on one occasion, on a visit to Nottingham Jer went from police station to police station until he finally tracked down where Mary was living. She died in her mid-50s.
