Obituary:-
JOhn Edward Dowling, 85, of Woodfire Way, Casselberry, Florida, died on April 14, 2000 of congestive heart failure. Proceded in death by the late Olga Mary Dalida Dowling and was the father of the late Brian Edward Dowling. Born in Providence, RI, JOhn had a distinguished sales and management career. Beginning with Brown and Williamson Tobacco Co., John also introduced 'vitamins' into the marketplace with Miles Laboratory. The John H Breck Company chose John to introduce the complete line of 'Breck Shampoos' all across the South-West. After a strong career with 'Breck' the Helena Rubenstein Cosmetics Company chose him to lead it's beauty regime into better departments and drug stores. It was in teh early 60's that John joined the 'Irving W. Rice & Co' and sold its complete selections of imported crystal perfume bottles, 'nite lites' and porcelain boudoir/bath accessories to all types of retail outlets.

His two sons followed him into same business. John retired in 1977. He moved to Central Florida in 1970, and was a member of St. Stephens Roman Catholic Church since it's beginning. Mr Dowling had become a recent resident of the Richerson Alzheimer's Program, Crescent City Healthcare Facility Garden District, New Orleans, LA.

In lieu of flowers family requests donations to the Alzheimer's Association, 2010 Mizell Ave., Winter Park, FL., Dennis Michael DOwling and wife Linda, daughter Mary Catherine Von Dullen and husband Rodney (Rocky), grandchildren, Jason Dowling, Orlando,, FL., Mark Henry Dowling, College Park, FL.

Re group photograph DENNISDOWLING (1026) (This was a ) "Promotion Photo for John E. Dowling: This photo was part of the promotion package that John E. Dowling received in 1953. John was promoted from Salesrepresentative to District Sales Manager for John H. Breck & Co. in the Southwester United States (John Dowling was based in Dallas, Texas) This photo went out to Company employees plus photos for mailings to customers. At this time Marketing of "Breck Shampoos" were a very special deal. In store promotions for Department Stores and Independant Drug stores. "Breck" was a premier leader in hair care products. "The Breck Girls" was part of an international ad campagin. John E. Dowling introduced "Breck" Shampoos to the Southwestern United States.
John and Olga are shown as "Family People" solid and traditional values. John H. Breck believed in these values for part of his promotion of his(Breck) company products. The picture was taken in our newly constructed Den(Garage conversion) in our first house at 10454 Desdemona Drive Dallas, Texas. John Dowling traveled in the company autos of Mercury and Hudson Hornets. This home still exists as of 2006 as I (Dennis) went by this address 14 years ago."

Mary Patricia (Dowling) Raymond Obituary Posted 05 Nov 2013 by RCvonDullen

Born Nov. 18, 1916 in Providence, RI, she was the daughter of Henry J. "Harry" and Agnes (Kirk) Dowling. A former Kent, OH resident for 17 years and Massachusett resident for 10 years, she had lived in Providence, RI for 25 years.

Mrs. Raymond was a special education teacher for 15 years in the Kent school system before retiring to live in Rhode Island in 1977.

She enjoyed gardening and evenings out with her husband and friends.

Survivors include her husband, Douglas L.; sons, Mark Kirk (Janet) of Tampa, FL, Kevin D. (Tracey) of Hilton Head, SC., and Richard H. of Sands Point, NY; daughters, Martha R. (Arden) Sommers of Kent, OH and Mary Louise (George) Remington of Hinckley, OH; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sisters, Kathleen (Joseph) Carty of Bonnet Shores, RI and Elizabeth (Richard) Whaley of Annapolis, MD. A brother, John E. Dowling of Altamonte Springs, FL, died previously.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas More Church in Narragansett, RI. Nardolillo Funeral Home South County Chapel in Narragansett is handling arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island, South Office, 143 Main St., Wakefield, R.I., 02879.

Douglas L. Raymond, 88, dies; championship track star, coach

NARRAGANSETT -- Douglas L. Raymond, 88, of Summit Avenue, the head coach of Kent State University's track-and-field program from 1960 to 1978, died Nov. 25 at South County Hospital.

He was the husband of the late Mary D. (Dowling) Raymond. Born in Beverly, Mass., a son of the late Lloyd M. and Edith (Wilbur) Raymond, he had lived in Kent, Ohio, before moving to Narragansett 18 years ago.

As a member of the track team at Boston University, from which he graduated in 1938, Mr. Raymond was undefeated in 440- and 880-yard races, and qualified for the 1940 Olympic Games.

After World War II, he coached seven BU teams to the New England Intercollegiate Championships, and five to Eastern Intercollegiate Team Championships. He was a coach to 25 All-American athletes, 4 National Collegiate Athletic Association record holders, and a world record holder.

At Kent State, he coached a team to the Mid-America Conference Championship, and produced 3 NCAA Division 1 record holders, 34 All-Americans, and the all-time high scorer in the MAC Track Championships. He also sent three athletes to the 1972 Olympics.

He was twice voted MAC Coach of the Year.

Mr. Raymond also coached the 1956 and 1960 Olympic track teams, the 1969 American team at the Pacific Conference Championships in Japan, and a team of Americans who competed in a 1956 international meet in Finland.

He was inducted into the Boston University Hall of Fame, Ohio Track and Field Association, Varsity K Hall of Fame, Portage County Hall of Fame, and the United States Track Coaches Hall of Fame.

He spent his retirement in Narragansett advising several local athletes, and playing golf.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving five years on destroyer escorts and battleships, and as a gun commander on merchant ships in the North Atlantic before retiring as a lieutenant commander.

He leaves two daughters, Martha R. Sommers of Kent and Mary L. Remington of Hinckley, Ohio; three sons, Mary K. Raymond of Tampa, Fla., Kevin D. Raymond of Hilton Head, S.C., and Richard H. Raymond of Sands Point, N.Y.; and 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Alvin and Wilbur Raymond.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. from Nardolillo Funeral Home South County Chapel, 1111 Boston Neck Rd. Burial, with military honors, will take place at 11 in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. A memorial service at Kent State will be held on the weekend of Jan. 30, coinciding with the annual invitational track meet named in his honor.

'reneflor' says on 16 February 2012, "Douglas Raymond set all kinds of records in high school, prep school, and college, competing in the 440 indoors and the 600 outdoors and he held every middle distance record during his undergraduate days at B.U.

Doug became the Terrier head coach of track in 1946, right after World War II, and for the next 15 years turned out famous Olympians and world record holders in about every event. Track stars came from afar to have Doug coach them. John Lawlor left Dublin and bypassed Yale just to have Doug make him the best hammer thrower and 35-pound weight tosser in the world. John Thomas turned down close to 100 offers in order that Doug could teach him how to get over the bar at the seemingly 7-foot barrier and John has cleared the 7-foot mark 191 times, more then any man in track history.

Doug was popular with his fellow coaches when at B.U. and was elected president of the IC4A track Coaches Association, Vice-Chairman of the New England Track and Field A.A.U., and President of the Eastern Intercollegiate AA.

He has sent dozens of men to the Olympics, including Doctor Lawlor, John Thomas, John Kelley, the younger, Cliff Blair, Al Schoterman, Jacques Accumbray, and Gerald Tinker, to name a few."
