Henry was a Ship Steward on board HMS Victory during the Victorian era.
Reference Number
In the Dowling One-Name Study Henry Dowling has the reference number 38113.

HMS Victory was a First Rate ship launched on 7 May 1765. A wooden vessel propelled by sail of 2142 tons and with 100 guns. She was rebuilt in 1801(2164 bm 1824 hs) and not dry-docked until 1922. Technically still in commission today she is a dry-docked museum. In 1844 to 1846 Victory was commanded by Captain George Moubray. In 1854 to 1867 sge was commanded by Captains: John Dalrymple Hay, George Thomas Gordon , James Roberty Grummond and George Henry Seymour.

HMS Illustrious was a Third Rate ship launched on 3 September 1803. A wooden vessel propelled by sail of 1746 tons and with 74 guns. In 1854, when Henry was aboard, Illustrious was a gunnery ship commanded by Captain Robert Harris used for training.
