Richard Dulin, son of Ralph, says, "A bit of American History. Iowa was "indian" territory until the removal of the tribes following the last great native uprising that stood even a marginal chance of stopping white encroachment, the Black Hawk War of 1832. The last of the Sauk and Fox were removed to Nebraska Territory in the early 1840's allowing Iowa Territory to be opened for white settlement. Chief Wapello negotiated the peaceful evacuation of his people to Nebraska and for that he was allowed to be buried back in his ancestral homeland in what is now Agency, Iowa. Fun fact, the population of Agency has hovered around 600 since 1860." MILITARY RECORD UNCONFIRMED AS IDENTICAL.

1962 Press Photo Veteran of two wars James L. Doolan - noo10666
This is an original press photo. An 86-year-old veteran of two wars, one rebellion and one military expedition reported today he has only four cents to tide him over until February 1. The government lost his Spanish American war veteran's check for January. Consequently James L. Doolan who lives at 1420 Prytania, is in a fix. Doolan has quite a military history. "I Went with Teddy to catch that fellow that stink the Maine," he said, talking of his Spanish-American war service in 1898. "I went with Blackjack Pershing to hunt down Pancho Villa in Mexico in 1914," he recalled. And there was service with the 33rd volunteer battalion in the Boxer Rebellion in China, in 1899, and three years army service during and after World War I. Unfortunately, they kept him out of World War II, "said I was too old to the whippersnappers." he said. Photo measures 8 x 10.25 inches. Photo is dated 01-18-1962.

    Items shown for sale,
Citation Detail: Auction of DOWLING, WILLIAM telescope; eBay sale Dec2018. For offer, a pair of early 19th Century, 3 draw Brass & Wood telescopes, one by William Dowling of London.1. A 3 draw telescope, of brass & wood construction, manufactured by William Dowling, and dating to circa 1820, George III/IV period, engraved to the first draw with "W. DOWLING LONDON DAY or NIGHT", and having a sliding dust cover, to the eye piece. William Dowling was an English optician working in London from 1814 to 1830. He made spectacle frames from a variety of materials, including gold, horn, silver, tortoiseshell, and steel. Dowling’s clients were wealthy and could afford these luxury materials. He offered spectacles for every type of wearer, including those experiencing long-sightedness, short-sightedness and those recovering from surgery. Like most other opticians of the time, Dowling also made telescopes and microscopes, which required highly ground lenses, a skill that spectacle makers had acquired, and developed in the course of their day to day work. His location was at, the West Gateway of Lincolns Inn, in Fleet Street, London.Condition is very good, with clear undamaged optics, the wood casing has nicks and bruising, commensurate with its age, and the brass has its aged patina intact, which I have not attempted to clean or polish, that will be up to the winning bidder, but personally, I prefer the patina, the action of extending the telescope is smooth, with the focussed image appearing sharp and clear, the dust cover slides easily.Collapsed length 11 1/8" (28.3cm)Extended length 33 5/8" (85.4cm)Weight 1Lb 11.3oz (776g)2. A 3 draw telescope, of brass & wood construction, unnamed, date is unknown, but certainly early to mid 19th Century, has a sliding dust cover to the eye piece, but unfortunately, the similar dust cover to the fore end is missing.Condition is very good, but with nicks, bruising and storage marks, to the wooden casing, and age patina to the brass, which again, I have not attempted to polish or clean, optics are clear, and focussed image is crisp, smooth action on extending, and the rear dust cover slides easily, there is an extendable sun shade to the fore end, some very minor dings and scratches to the brass draws.Collapsed length 11 1/2" (31.8cm)Extended length 34 1/8" (86.6cm)With sun shade extended 37 5/16" (94.8cm)Weight 2Lb 9.6oz (1Kg 178g)Combined weight nearly 2Kg, hence p&p cost.,
