right end of ribbon
George FRANCIS was born in about 1848 to Mr and Mrs William FRANCIS.

He married Ann HOBBS on the 25 October 1871 at the Parish Church in Barton-le-Clay, Bedfordshire. At the time George was 23 years and Ann 27 years and both had been previously unmarried. George at the time was a Carpenter shown as residing in Upper Gravenhurst on the road North-east from Barton-le-Clay to Biggleswade.

George and Ann had at least two daughters, one was Annie Hobbs FRANCIS, born on 14th March 1873. At the time they lived in Arlsey, Bedfordshire, UK. At the birth of Anne Hobbs FRANCIS George was shown as a carpenter and when their daughter was married, in Biggleswade, George was shown as a builder.

A check of the Census UK 1881 showed no trace of the FRANCIS family in Arlsey indicating that they were not present in Arlsey on 3rd April 1881.

George may be the witness shown at his daughter's wedding in 1893. Further, George, shown now as a Master Builder, was not shown as deceased at his daughter's second wedding in 1917 (unlike the parent of her spouse). He therefore appears to have died after 2nd April 1917.

Morning Brian, Thank you for replying. I guess it must be via the Jones family tree. Unfortunately we haven't explored that yet, (I use my nephew - Jonathan Dawson's membership). If it is this line then it will be my paternal grandmother who was born a Jones but came originally from Shropshire. She eventually settled in Ramsgate because my grandfather, uncle and father were all coal miners and, having travelled the country, including Wales, eventually worked in the Kent pits.
I remember only three Jones family members who lived in Ramsgate, my great uncle Jack and my father's cousins Muriel and Betty. My father was very fond of Betty and I wonder if your mother is Betty's daughter. No need to respond to this but if I've hit the mark I'd be happy to share what I remember with you mother. Apologies if the English doesn't flow - I have one arm in a sling at present.
Regards Teresa (formerly Kenhard so not related through the Clarks)
