Teresa Clark nee Kenhard in 2019 says, "...my paternal grandmother who was born a Jones but came originally from Shropshire. She eventually settled in Ramsgate because my grandfather, uncle and father were all coal miners and, having travelled the country, including Wales, eventually worked in the Kent pits.

I remember only three Jones family members who lived in Ramsgate, my great uncle Jack and my father's cousins Muriel and Betty. My father was very fond of Betty...

My mother (Annie M Kenhard nee Jones) occasionally helped out at the pub (York Arms, 35 King Street, Ramsgate, Kent owned by Alex Dowling and Betty Dowling nee Davies) as did I on one occasion. I remember your (Brian Thomas DOwling 1955-) mum and dad well.

Jack lived next to my grandparents in, I think, Brunswick Street - he was a very dapper man - at one time a batman to one of the princes. Fanny must have been a favourite family name as my aunt - my father's oldest sister was also called Fanny (May). She lived opposite my grandparents. Unfortunately Aunt May had severe mental health problems and eventually became estranged from the family. I saw much more of my Uncle Brin (the youngest in the family) and also Aunty Gwen. Robert (is) Brin's son.

My mother and my grandmother didn't get on well so we never socialised with her much. She also had a very profound stroke at 64 which confined her to bed and affected her speech. We were somewhat surprised to find she and my grandfather didn't marry until 1926. We knew they had eloped but never guessed they married well after the children were born!

Morning Brian, Thank you for replying. I guess it must be via the Jones family tree. Unfortunately we haven't explored that yet, (I use my nephew - Jonathan Dawson's membership). If it is this line then it will be my paternal grandmother who was born a Jones but came originally from Shropshire.
My father was very fond of Betty and I wonder if your mother is Betty's daughter. No need to respond to this but if I've hit the mark I'd be happy to share what I remember with you mother. Apologies if the English doesn't flow - I have one arm in a sling at present.
Regards Teresa (formerly Kenhard so not related through the Clarks)

Annie BISHOP was born on 3 December 1876 probably in East Garston in Berkshire to Stephen BISHOP and wife Alice Mary PETTIFER. At birth her father was shown as a labourer.

Annie was a Domestic Servant, probably in Eastbury in Berkshire where she was married.

Annie married Ernest Albert Gylby on 28th August 1895 when he was 23 and she was 18 years old. This was in the Parish Church at Eastbury. At the time of the Wedding Annie was expecting her first child who was to be born only nine days later.

She gave birth to Lilly Maria on 6th September 1895. But is also considered to have had a much larger family including other daughters: Phyllis Ruby, Stella and Irene Alice (who was a witness at sister Lily's marriage).

Annie lived a long life dying aged 95 years old on 18th September 1972 at 7 Winchester Road, Walton, Surrey, UK. (This is possibly her daughter Phyllis's address). She died of heart failure and old age.
